I first saw the Boon Squirt Baby Food Dispensing Spoon at Target. Target actually carries a few of Boon's baby feeding products (and lots of their other goodies online). I stood in the aisle at Target a few times debating it with Hubby and the consensus was we didn't need it. He was right, we didn't need it, but it did look like fun!
Essentially, you just dump the baby food into the orange bulb and then reattach the plastic spoon. You give the bulb a little squeeze and...viola, baby food appears on the spoon. It even comes with a cover to keep the spoon and food covered up until you need it.
My Aunt bought Bink the spoon for Christmas. We tried it out for the first time last week. Yes, it took me over two months to try it, I'll get to that later.
Overall, I really like the spoon. It's very easy to use, you really jump dump the food in and squeeze to get it back out. It can definitely be done with one hand, which is one of their main marketing points. I actually did most of my feeding with my left hand (since my right hand was busy taking pictures!).
I tried it in our kitchen, but I think it would be really helpful for feeding while you're out with baby. Often times when I'm out to eat, its with Hubby or other family or friends. We take turns feeding ourselves and feeding the Bink. For the other occasions where its just Bink and I, I think this would be great. I usually pack him a separate bowl and spoon to hold his food or I feed with off my plate with the baby spoon.
The Boon Squirt Spoon also makes the "reload" time faster, since you're just squeezing instead of scooping more food. Sometimes that's of utmost importance to Bink during his FEEDMEFEEDMEFEEDMENUM phases since speed can prevent meltdowns and Howler Monkey-esque screams.
I even let Bink "feed" himself with it for a few minutes. He wasn't strong enough to really squeeze the food out and make a mess, but he was amused by chewing on it in general.
The only reason I don't know that I'll use the Boon Squirt Spoon more often at home is because I make my own baby food. Feeding Bink freshly pureed food in it would work well, but often I'm defrosting cubes of pre-made food for him. Since I've got to defrost the food in a bowl anyway, I doubt that I would use the spoon too. There are already enough dirty dishes here, I don't need to make more.
The Boon Squirt Spoon was easy to use and definitely makes one-handed feeding more convenient if you're using jarred or freshly pureed baby food. They are a little pricey for a single spoon (around $7), but also very easy to clean. I think it would make a fun baby shower or new mommy gift or would be beneficial if you're often feeding baby alone and need a hand free.
What do you think? Has anyone else tried them?
